General information about Bamberg County

The most western administrative district of the governmental district Upper Franconia is the administrative district Bamberg. He borders in the north on the administrative district Lichtenfels and administrative district Coburg , in the east in administrative district Bayreuth , in the south to the administrative districts Forchheim, Erlangen-Höchstadt, Neutstadt an der Aisch - Bad Windsheim and Kitzingen, as well as in the west to the administrative districts Schweinfurt and Haßberge.

With a surface of approx. 1,167 kms ² and a number of inhabitants of approx. 145000 a middle population density of 124 residents per km ².

Important cities and municipalities in the administrative district Bamberg are called Baunach, Hallstadt, Scheßlitz, Schlüsselfeld, Burgebrach, Burgwindheim, Buttenheim, Ebrach, Heiligenstadt in Oberfranken, Hirschaid, Rattelsdorf, Memmelsdorf, Stegaurach, Strullendorf and Zapfendorf.

The administrative district Bamberg offers a huge number in small private breweries which allow to forget the visitor in the taproom the time. All the same whether one is on the move as a wanderer on foot or as a cyclist by the bike in the administrative district Bamberg, it offers itself always a nice opportunity to the stop. For ambitious cyclists you can get right mountain feeling at Tiefenellern with its serpentines like in the Alps!

The palace Seehof, approx. 5 kms is also especially worth seeing before city of Bamberg . It functioned as a summer residence of the Bambergian bishops and is from breathtaking beauty. Directly next to the palace and the great palace-park there are the carp breeding bassains.

Geography

With the Steigerwald in the west, Franconian Switzerland in the east and the Haßberge in the north three nature reserves are at least partially in the administrative district Bamberg.
