General Information about Lower Franconia

Lower Franconia is one of three Franconian governmental districts in Bavaria and is not to be mistaken for the congruent district Lower Franconia. It lies in the northwest of Bavaria and borders on the federal states Baden-Wuertemberg, Hessen and Thuringia, as well as the Bavarian governmental districts Upper franconia, and Middle Franconia.

Lower Franconia has a surface of 8,530.99 kms ² and 1.34 million residents. With thus there come approx. 157 residents on the square kilometer. Especially Lower Franconia is stamped by the Main with its loops and the wine-growing possible with thus. Great parts of Lower Franconia are called Main-Franconia.

Economy in Lower Franconia

In the metropolitan area Schweinfurt lies an industrial main focus of Lower Franconia. A great number of metal-processing companies is resident here. Along the Main river the wine-growing images a main source of income, Wurzburg with its residence is a destination of many tourists. The metropolitan area Aschaffenburg is influenced by the conurbation of Frankfurt on the Main. Generally the Main is as a goods traffic route for Lower Franconia of quite special meaning.

Climate and human blow

Lower Franconia is stamped by the Main from mild warm climate. Here grow miraculous wines, the cultivation of fruit and vegetables is intensely pursued. Sugar beets are the main source of income with many farmers. The winters are not so austere by far and long like in Upper franconia. The climate also affects the people. Lower Franconia there talk with pleasure (at least substantially more than all the other francs), are sociable, fond of celebration and swallow the suffixes. With a pint wine one sits together and chats. Or celebrates the probably best known Frankish carnival in Veitshoechheim.

Transport infrastructure

Lower Franconia is opened by the Main river as the waterway which is navigable on the whole length. As major roads the A3 from Nuremberg to Frankfurt and in the north - the south - in the direction of A7 are to be mentioned in the east - west - in the direction of highway from Kassel to Ulm. With the A70 to Bayreuth and the Thuringian forest highway Lower Franconia is perfectly linked up to the goods streams in Germany. The railroad is from Nuremberg to Wurzburg one of the most important main transport lines of German Rail.
